Description

In the increasingly competitive business environment, most firms have come to rely on quantitative methods for data analysis and decision making. This course emphasizes problem solving. Topics covered include probability theory, sampling theory, the central limit theorem, estimation, inference, hypotheses testing, regression analysis, and analysis of variance. Students learn how and when to apply these "tools" and how to interpret their results. (Prerequisite: MATH 4000) Section information text: The course subject matter includes introduction to statistical theory and methods, graphical and numerical descriptive statistics, and probability theory, including discrete and continuous probability distributions. Sampling distributions of sample means and proportions, confidence intervals, one and two sample hypothesis testing, and simple linear regression applications will also be covered. The overall objective of this course is to provide students with an understanding of why statistics is important and how it is used to make decisions in business. Open to PCG students only.
