Description
This course will provide students with the opportunity to apply academic knowledge and skills in a professional experience through an approved internship. The course will allow students to: (1) explore their professional identity (2) gain practical experience in a work setting (3) explore their career interests, and (4) reflect on their internship experience and articulate the skills they've developed in a collaborative weekly seminar setting. Students will work toward these goals through a supervised internship, supported by readings, discussions, and assignments. Each student will find, choose, or be provided with an internship site. In the case where an internship needs to be provided, the site matching will be based upon (1) a survey completed by the site supervisor highlighting the needs of the internship site and (2) students' preference of location based on availability. The course instructor will make final decisions on all internship placements. Students are encouraged to work with the Career Connections Center to search and apply for internships before the start of the semester. If you're an F-1 or J-1 international student, you may need work authorization before starting any research, volunteer, or internship opportunity. To avoid issues with your immigration status, please contact the International Student and Scholars Office (ISSO) isso@clarku.edu before you begin. They can help ensure you maintain your status, determine whether authorization is required, and guide you through the process.
