Description

Counseling Children & Adolescents in Schools prepares school psychology candidates to provide effective, developmentally informed counseling and related mental health supports in school settings. Grounded in an understanding of schools as unique service environments, the course emphasizes counseling within family, school, and community systems; culturally responsive practice; and the role of consultation and collaboration. Students develop skills in theory integration and case conceptualization and learn evidence-based approaches commonly used in schools. The course also addresses legal and ethical responsibilities, accountability and outcome monitoring, and creating a continuum of care across tiered supports.
