Description

Course description. (.5 unit). This course will use intersectional analysis to dissect the societal legacies and structural features of food systems in different regions of the world, especially in the Caribbean and Central America. Intersectional analysis examines the socio-cultural, gender, class, and the hierarchical systems which classify, racialize, or are used to dominate human populations, while interrogating the history and the identities of the people who converge upon any given region (or country)-including both the oppressors and the oppressed. Climate change and environmental depletion are causing turmoil in diverse regional scenarios, which are sparkling new identities, collective action, and engendering new forms of resistance and adaptation. Intersectional analysis can offer prolific avenues to explain these forms of resistance and adaptation.
