Description
Section information text: In this course we will consider the role that money plays in American elections and evaluate current and past proposals for campaign finance reform. We will discuss patterns in individual and group contributions to candidates, groups, and parties, with attention the relationships between givers and receiversthat is, what donors expect to get in return for their contributions, and how politicians court individual donors. We will also consider the effect of independent political spending and issue advocacy. We will make use of publicly available information on campaign finance at the national and local level, and we will develop a collaborative project to address the perceptions of local politicians on the role money plays in their campaigns.
