Description

This course will introduce students to the study of ethics, which is the rigorous, reasoned reflection on the moral values of our actions. In particular, in this course we will focus upon the various ways that human individuals and communities choose to respond to wrongdoing and we will consider the various moral principles that guide those actions. We will begin the course by critically surveying the ancient texts that ground our intuitions about the nature of justice. In following weeks, short lectures and readings in modern philosophy will be paired with class discussions of the novelist Louise Erdrich's novel, LaRose.
