Description
This course is designed to acquaint students with all aspects of podcasting and to help them become better producers and storytellers. Students will learn to think critically about stories they consume, and will develop a working knowledge in all aspects of current trends in podcast production. There will be lessons on sound gathering using professional sound gear as well as cell phones, both studio and field production & post-production techniques, as well as practice in interviewing, script writing, and developing a "radio voice." The semester is structured around three podcast projects and several analytic writing assignments. Along the way in each class session, we will share lively group discussions structured by a variety of listenings & readings - on popular, historical and theoretical approaches to podcasts & their production, genres, and aesthetics.
