Description
This course explore the history of the Armenian Genocide and the arguments historians have made for one of the first genocides of the twentieth century. Students will learn the contours of the Young Turk government's policies toward the Greek, Armenian, and Assyrian communities and read primary sources that amplify the voices and experiences of witnesses and survivors. Students will learn about the ongoing Armenian genocide denial and Turkey's relationship to neighboring Armenia in light of 1915 and Turkish foreign policy in the South Caucasus. The course will leave students with inspiring activist efforts to recognize and memorialize 1915.
