Description
The continent of Africa has a long history of war and genocide from the modern era of kingdoms into the colonial period and the present. This perspective will take learners through the themes of traditional societies in conflict, the structures of colonialism, including capitalism and violence extraction of resources, conflicts of independence and decolonization, practices of exclusion, and resistance to oppression. Learners will understand these histories through the accounts of African writers and witnesses to these events. Algeria, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Sudan, and Uganda are featured as case studies.
