Description

This seminar introduces critical geopolitics with a focus on the environment. It overviews the roots of "classical" geopolitics and the emergence of critical, popular, feminist, and postcolonial theories in recent decades. We will pay especially close attention to US imperialism, urbanization, borders and walls, fossil fuels, the Arctic and Antarctic, subsoils and the deep sea, outer space, China's foreign investments and international development cooperation, pandemic diseases, the politics of climate change, the recent escalation of war between Russia and Ukraine, and/or other current affairs.
