Description

Taking inspiration from Raymond Queneau's project of writing the same scene from 99 different perspectives, we will engage our faculties of observation, interrogation, and imagination as we learn to see and think - differently, deeply, expansively - through writing. Use of literary devices such as simile, metaphor, and personification will be practiced, as will the editing and peer-review processes. Attention will be given to broadening vocabulary and using context-specific language. A variety of prompts and activities will guide and inform our writing: literary and journalistic texts, excursions around campus, engagement with objects and images. Writing assignments will range from realistic to fantastic, from prosaic to lyrical. Emphasis will be on developing one's voice and relationship to writing in French. No previous experience in creative writing is necessary to succeed in this course.
