Description

The Internet of Things (IoT) integrates people, processes, and technology through connectable devices and sensors to enable applications like remote monitoring, status updates, trend analysis, and more. Advances in miniaturization and affordable, network-connected devices have expanded IoT's impact across sectors like inventory control, manufacturing, and transportation. IoT applications, driven by consumer and business needs, improve efficiencies and drive data-driven decisions. IoT also offers opportunities for positive social impact, such as air quality monitoring and water consumption metering. This course covers the IoT lifecycle, focusing on problem-solving through topics like requirements analysis, ideation, design, implementation, testing, and reporting. It includes in-depth coverage of electronics and embedded systems, preparing students to design and prototype IoT solutions. Students will explore technologies like sensors, devices, connectivity, and distributed systems, culminating in a functioning prototype. As a graduate course, it incorporates research literature, with students responsible for designing, prototyping, and presenting a major project.
