Description

Section information text: This course will cover the major trends in early modern European history, roughly from 1400-1800, including the Renaissance, Scientific Revolution, the decline of the position of women, and Revolution. Four hundred years and an entire continent is a lot to take on in a single semester. Consequently, while the presentation of material will roughly follow a chronological order, we will be emphasizing certain themes. These will include the rise of the state, the emergence of capitalism and European empires, confessional conflict, class relations, and the growth of "modern" thought.
